After the disappointment of rain at Ruapuna the big boys are hungry to see who can run a 5 second pass at Taupo. Be there to see who will reign supreme!

Summer Slam 2012 proudly supported by Woodstock Classic Car & Hot Rod Festival
SummerSlam 2012 started with the expectation of a great sunny day but as more cars and bikes arrived, so too did the clouds.
As entrant after entrant rolled in the drizzly rain made its presence
but did not dampen the enthusiasm of the racers and their crew.
A
pleasing number of racers entered for SummerSlam 2012 which was proudly
supported by Woodstock Classic Car & Hot Rod Festival. 78 Cars and
Bikes were ready and roaring to make the tarmac at Taupo International
Dragway beg for mercy.
It wasn't long before the hard working team at TID had the track dried
off and ready for action thanks to the Supercharge Batteries powered Jet
Drier.
Yet again records where both matched and beaten and Ian Wilkins was again impressive with another record on his
Funnybike setting a new MPH record of 175.56 mph! Well done Ian.
The
crowds were certainly impressed with the action aplenty and with a
faultless timing system everything was running well. Sadly midway
through round 2, the rain yet again made an appearance for 30 minutes
meaning a halt in the action whilst the team jumped back into action
getting the track dry. Round 2 was then completed by the remaining
racers by this time the rain was determined to put a stop to the day.
Fortunately Taupo International Dragway had chosen to run the meeting on
Chicago Shootout format meaning that all racers had racer return and no
one was put on the trailer and points were earned per round per
placing. With this, they were able to reach results to be able to award
Winners and Runners up in each division.
With this, we would like to congratulate the efforts of all racers and especially the podium place getters.
Considering
the amount of rain that had fallen across the North Island, it was a
fortunate day for the all that attended Taupo International Dragway's
SummerSlam 2012.

to secure a sponsor to Televise the series, more details will be released as
they come to hand.
What have we been up to
It's been an interesting off season, with lots of negotiations and meetings taking place between Taupo Motorsport Park, NZDRA and Top Fuel Enterprises. We can now move forward and confirm our meeting dates and events. December 10th - Will give you all a chance to blow off the cobwebs and test your vehicles against the challenges of altitude and temperature at Taupo International Dragway Test and Tune. The very next day, 11th December sees Round One of the NZDRA National Series and Summer Nationals.The finer details fro this are still being ironed out with NZDRA, please feel free to contact them if you have questions NZDRA@xtra.co.nz. January 3rd - Sees the return of the ever popular Summer Slam, which is always an exciting event for all and live entertainment. Details to follow.19th February 2012 - Will see Taupo host Round 3 of the Nationwide Track Series. This will be a lead up before the Grand Finals at FRAM. March 3rd - Will blast into action with the New Zealand Nationals followed by a dinner and prize giving in the corporate suite at Taupo Motorsport Park. In all a great season ahead at Taupo as more details come to hand we will let you know but as always feel free to contact us via email,website or phone. We look forward to seeing you all trackside very soon.
If you have any slicks you no longer want, TID would appreciate them very much for rubbering the track. We will gladly come and collect them.
